Classic birding in the Pearl of Africa
14 days-Classic Birding trip to Mabamba to search for the Shoe bill, Gorillas and enjoy birding, boat trips and game drives.
Day 1. Arrival at Entebbe.
Overnight: Gately Inn Entebbe.
Day 2.Transfer to Mabamba marsh land
Search for the Shoebill bird, Papyrus gonolek, White winged warbler then later transfer to Lake Mburo. Overnight at Rwakobo Lodge.
Day 3. Mburo Birding haven
Go for early birdwatching in search for the Red faced barbet, Crested barbet, long tailed cisticola, Wattled starling. In the afternoon go for a boat cruise in search for water birds like African finfoot, White backed night heron and many more waterbirds. Overnight: Rwakobo Rock.
Day 4. Mgahinga National Park
Early morning transfer to Mgahinga National park in the western part of Uganda as you do birdwatching on the way through Echuya forest reserve where you stand a chance to see Albertine endemics like Grauers rush warbler, Purple breasted Sunbird. Overnight Travelers rest Inn or Chameleon Hill.
Day 5.Bird watching around Mgahinga National Park
Go and search for the Kivu ground thrush, Rwenzori Turaco, Rwenzori night jar, Mountain yellow warbler then later drive to Ruhija. Overnight Gorilla Lodge or Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge
Day 6. Mubwindi Swamp
Early bird watching around Mubwindi Swamp in search of the African Green broadbill, Strange weaver, Banded Prinia, Doherty’s Bush shrike as you extend your birding to the “neck” for more special species like Bar- tailed Trogon, Dusky Crimsonwing, Petit’s Cuckoo Shirke, Blackbee eater. Overnight Gorilla Lodge or Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge
Day 7. Gorilla and Batwa
Early Gorilla tracking and Batwa experience in the late afternoon. Overnight Gorilla Lodge or Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge
Day 8. Buhoma Trail
After breakfast, go bird watching along the Buhoma trail to search for birds like the Narina Trogon, Black-billed Turaco; African Broadbill .Overnight Gorilla Lodge or Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge
Day 9. Ishasha Sector
Early morning transfer to Ishasha, Southern sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. This area is habitat of savannah birds like the Blue throated roller; White tailed Ant thrush and also search for the fabulous Tree Climbing lions. Overnight The River Lodge or Ntungwe river lodge.
Day 10. Queen Elizabeth National Park
Early game drive as you transfer to the northern sector of Queen Elizabeth NP where you can see savannah species like Temminck’s courser, Crowned lapwing .Overnight Katara lodge or Enganzi Lodge.
Day 11. Game drive
Early game drive in search of the lions and other wildlife. Later go for a crater tour in the park.
Return for lunch and relax. In the afternoon go for a boat cruise. You will be able to see many migratory birds like the African skimmer, African Spoon bill, Grate Pelican. Overnight Mountains of the moon hotel or Ruwenzori Guest house.
Day 12. Chimpanzee day
Today after breakfast go for Chimp tracking in Kibale Forest National Park. Return for lunch and relax. After lunch go for an afternoon swamp walk in Bigodi wetland. You will see more birds like Shining blue king fisher, White headed sawings, Snowy headed robin chat and also view 13 primate species.
Overnight: Mountains of the Moon hotel or Ruwenzori Guest house.
Day 13.Transfer to Kampala as you make a stop over along the way for bird watching. Overnight Gately Inn.
Day 14.Early bird watching around Botanical gardens. Later visit the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre. Return to your hotel for lunch and relax as you get ready for your evening flight. This marks the end of your Classic birding tour.
