Track Mountain gorillas in Bwindi, Uganda

Uganda is home to half of the World’s population of Mountain gorillas. These endangered primates are found in Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga Gorilla National Parks. When you see these gentle giants, it is such an exhilarating experience.

Gorilla Trekking can sometimes be strenuous. Gorillas usually migrate from one place to another. When you finally come face to face with them, the tiredness is replaced with a smile. 

The Bwindi forest is a habitat of other species of mammals and endemic birds. On a lucky day, a visitor might see chimpanzees, monkeys, duikers, forest elephants and the rare Africa forest hog.

Gorilla tracking is available all year round. However, best times to visit Bwindi are the dry months of June to September and December to February. Dry trails easy for trekking. In April to May, heavy rainfall, makes trails very wet thus making trekking more challenging.

Explore Ngorongoro crater and Serengeti, Tanzania

The Serengeti and Ngorongoro areas are associated with the great migration. Here large herds of gazelles, wildebeests, zebras move long distances in search of green pastures. Their journey is not free from challenges. It involves crossing crocodile infested waters and predator territory especially through the Serengeti to Masai Mara. The predator and prey encounters are mouth- watering scenes. These destinations are endowed with plenty of wildlife which includes the Big five.

At Ngorongoro, crater views welcome you. You can also see wild animals that include the Lions, Zebras, Rhino and elephants and Thomson gazelles. The Denham’s bustard bird is common sight at the conservation area.

Chimpanzee trekking in Uganda

As part of the East Africa Safari, Uganda is home to an estimated 5,000 chimpanzees across the tropical forests. Kibale Forest National park is considered the primate capital of East Africa. It is home to 1500 chimpanzees and other 12 resident primates, is an ideal place to include on your safari. Chimpanzee tracking is the common activity at the park. You can track these playful primates and sometimes hunters of other primates. Enjoy 1 hour viewing them. Enjoy an all-day chimpanzee habituation experience. With habituation you will learn more from researchers about their behavior, family structures and reproduction.

Habituation is a process of taming wild animals to accept close range interaction with humans. Uganda should be your favorite destination for chimpanzee trekking or habituation experience.

Enjoy an exciting safari at Masai Mara with the Big cats, Kenya

Masai Mara is a natural gem that is a must visit. Roaming wildlife welcomes you. The accommodation blends well with the natural environment. Get close to the big cats (lions, leopards and cheetahs). Enjoy the Murchison falls powerful waterfall, Uganda

Murchison falls is home to the powerful waterfall. It is a spectacular scenery to behold. Watch the River Nile waterfall squeeze itself through a narrow gorge before it further heads to Lake Albert. The waterfalls mesmerized Sir Samuel Baker who later named them after Sir Roderick Murchison the President of Royal Geographical society at the time.

This National park hosts a variety of mammals like; elephants, Giraffes, Lions, leopards, Hartebeest. Birds include African fish eagle, storks, love birds and Kingfishers. The iconic Shoebill bird can be seen during the dry months of January to March.

A boat safari to the bottom of the falls rewards you with amazing views of the hippos and crocodiles basking in the sun. Hiking to the top of the Falls is another exciting activity. A misty water splash and deafening sound of the waterfall welcomes you at the top. The hiking trail was used by Winston Churchill in 1907.

Famous visitors to the park include Ernest Hemingway, Sir Winston Churchill, Theodore Roosevelt.

Kidepo Valley National Park – the hidden gem 

CNN travel describes Kidepo the hidden gem. It hosts about 77 mammals and 500 bird species. The largest herd of buffalos lives here. The park has great scenery attractive to the visitor. Although the furthest park to the northeast of Uganda, it can be reached by road with stop overs along the way or by inland flight.

The park offers excellent game viewing. Predators like Lion, cheetah, leopard can be seen in the park. Other animals include the elephants, bush duikers, bush bucks and ostriches.

Visit Nyungwe Forest National Park in Rwanda

The park covers 970 square km. It is a startling national park with different primate species and variety of birds. Seventy five mammal species and over 275 bird species are resident to Nyungwe Forest National Park. 

Chimpanzee is the main attraction in the national park and boasts of East Africa’s highest canopy walk which gives you an opportunity to see the  birds at eye level. The montane forest reserve is home to other primates that include; L’Hoest Monkey, Silver monkey, Olive baboons, Vervet monkey, grey-cheeked mangabey and red tailed monkey.

Volcanoes National Park-the Gorilla habitat in Rwanda

The endangered Mountain Gorilla is the star attraction in the national park. Travellers to Rwanda visit Volcanoes National Park to encounter the Mountain Gorilla in its natural habitat. It borders Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo. Tracking Gorillas is best done during the dry seasons (June to September) when the trails are drier. Trails are slippery in the rainy season (March to May) making gorilla trekking difficult.

The park is home to ten habituated Gorilla family groups. Dian Fossey a prominent researcher carried out her conservation work at the national park. She discovered that gorillas had families and take care of the off-springs like humans. She was buried next to her favorite Gorilla-Digit. 

Other animals that are resident to the park but rarely seen include ; the elephants, buffalo and duikers.
